The traditional cane head is very hard wearing and does not bend to the same extent as plastic headed sticks, which some players find they prefer. It gives a more solid connection, both to the ground and also to the ball as it leaves the racquet. It comes in a range of shapes and also comes in different colour combinations.

Racquets will vary in terms of weight, cane thickness and net settings (though nets can be adjusted and will change slightly as they are used). Thicker caned racquets tend to be heavier and less flexible. Bombers use a system of A to H to denominate the weight of the racquet, with A being the lightest and G the heaviest.
